Categories
of Northern VA Food Manager Cards
There are two
categories of Northern VA Food Manager Cards - Standard and Limited. A
"Limited Foodservice Establishment" is defined as those which typically
serve hotdogs, pre-cooked food items that are heated and served,
prepackaged foods or other types of food that are not potentially
hazardous. All restaurants and foodservice establishments which are not
classified as Limited by their local Health Department are required to
have their personnel meet the criteria for the Standard Northern VA
Food Manager Card. It is the responsibility of each person applying for
a Standard Northern VA Food Manager Card or a Limited Northern VA Food
Manager Card to know the correct classification of their establishment.
Those who are uncertain of their establishment's classification should
contact their local Health Department before making application for a
Northern VA Food Manager Card.

The ORS Food Safety Management Course (available in English and
Spanish) is designed to prepare learners to meet food safety
certification requirements for local and national health
departments. Upon successfully passing the Certified Food Safety
Manager (CFSM) 80-question exam with a score of 75% or higher,
participants receive a National Registry of Food Safety Professionals
(NRFSP) certificate. The ORS Food Safety Management Course is
highly recommended for all foodservice owners, managers, and
supervisors as part of a comprehensive effort to improve safe food
handling practices and lower risk at their respective operations.
The ORS Food Safety
Management Course can be taught on-site in a foodservice operation or
another facility. Organizations frequently partner with other
operators in coordinating delivery of the program. In addition,
the content of the course can be customized to meet the specific needs
of a company. The length of the course is a total of 8 hours,
including the exam. Most organizations prefer to offer the class
in full-day or half-day sessions, but shorter time periods can be
arranged. It is preferable to conduct the class in a suitable
training facility or meeting room. Basic equipment required
includes: VCR and monitor, and flip chart with markers.
Customized on-site instruction can be arranged for a minimum of 10
participants.
